What a Sunday to remember,
Lunch safely in the stomach,
Older folks taking a nap,
Younger ones getting a kick of a fun-filled weekend,

This new game of high jump was just introduced at school,
It was just too trendy not have to have a personal setup,
Aided by the weather, cool and conducive for some routine.

Zoom, Zoom, Zoom,
On and on he goes
With long strides,
Backwards he goes,
The take off distance must be enough,
The next leap would make him qualify,
The jump was quite high,
But to him, that should be a walk in the park.

With eyes fixed on the bar,
Farther and farther he walked
And closer and closer he traversed,
Totally engrossed was he that he failed to remember,
That the lid to the well was due for repairs,
Just one more step, called the nightmare.

That step he did take,
And sure the lid did give way,
With a rush, it caved, gravity took its place,
And down, he plunged, headlong
Deep into the dark

Could this be an abyss?
Could this be a dream?
It is just a nightmare, I will soon be awake
Thoughts flashed at the speed of lights,
Then thump, a big whole splash.

Fortunately, he had narrowly missed the submersible water pump,
But that was just the beginning of the ordeal
A little boy, scared, wet, 7 metres below,
Death staring hard at the boy in the face,
Struggling for gulps of fresh air,
Drowning?

The will to live
The desire to stay alive
Then came the miracle, with a sudden up thrust,
Floating up rightly, just to see faces all over the top
Voices of terror, fear written all over, wailing and heart rending tears,
Something must be done very fast or we'd lose him, someone said
The search for the nearest well digger who can only be found at Sabo, 25 minutes away began.

The clock was ticking, precious minutes sped by,
How he was still floating & alive for this long, no one could explain, (... HE WILL GIVE HIS ANGELS CHARGE OVER YOU TO KEEP YOU IN THEIR HANDS...)

Then came this courageous neighbour,
So brave he volunteered to enter the hole,
Divinely orchestrated, up, up, up, he came,
Eyes wide open, in a confounding silence,
Stomach protruded, fuzzy and woozy,
Giving an acknowledgement of his victory,
He slipped into sweet oblivion.

*This is dedicated to the memory of the little girl, two houses away, who became the victim of a similar mishap in her own compound, two months later.*
I met the courageous man in my finals at his office on campus,...

Mum, your courage is out of this world
Super dad, whose Spirit caught whiff of the scene in Ìfẹ́  from Osogbo where he went for a church programme and began interceding at the same moment.
My siblings who has always been there.
Stay sharp as light in the *Word* and in the World precious ones.
